Prof Ellen Yi-Luen Do

Prof Ellen Yi-Luen Do

Professor, ATLAS Institute & Computer Science

Ellen Yi-Luen Do (Professor, ATLAS Institute & Computer Science) invents at the intersections of people, design, and technology. She works on computational tools for design, especially sketching, creativity, and design cognition, including creativity support tools and design studies, tangible and embedded interaction, and computing for health and wellness.

She holds a Ph.D. in Design Computing from Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master of Design Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a bachelor's degree from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. She has served on the faculties of the University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University, and Georgia Institute of Technology. She co-directed the Keio-NUS CUTE Center in Singapore (2013 - 2016), a research unit investigating Connected Ubiquitous Technology for Embodiments. Ellen has published over 170 papers and raised over $11M in research funding. She was Design Community Chair for ACM CHI (2012 and 2013), and currently serves on the Steering Committees for ACM Conference series of TEI (Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction) and C&C (Creativity & Cognition), ISWC (International Symposium on Wearable Computers), and AH (Augmented Human), and on the editorial board for AIEDAM (Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing), Springer Series on Cultural Computing, and AUSMT.

Prof Cara Wrigley

Prof Cara Wrigley

Professor of Design within the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology at The University of Queensland

Professor Cara Wrigley is an internationally recognised leader in design innovation, interdisciplinary design education, and human-centred design for complex systems. She is Professor of Design and Head of the Design Discipline at The University of Queensland, where she leads a large-scale design research lab and directs multiple interdisciplinary research programs across healthcare, defence, and emerging technologies.

Professor Wrigley’s research focuses on how design can be used to navigate complexity, build emotional connection, and translate innovation theory into practice. She is Editor-in-Chief of Design Studies (Elsevier), the leading international journal in the field, and has published extensively on design-led innovation, design thinking, and design for high-risk and medical contexts.

She works closely with industry, government, and global research partners to co-design solutions for wicked problems, with current projects addressing mechanical circulatory support devices, patient safety, and design leadership in complex socio-technical systems.

Prof Chien-Hsiung Chen

Prof Chien-Hsiung Chen

Chien-Hsiung Chen received his Doctoral, Master's, and Bachelor's degrees in Industrial Design (Ph.D. and MFA at The University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, USA and BS at Tatung Institute of Technology (now Tatung University), Taipei, Taiwan). During his academic study at The University of Kansas, Dr. Chen incorporated design knowledge from various disciplines (e.g., industrial/interaction design, human factors/ergonomics, cognitive psychology, computer science, and artificial intelligence) into design research studies and applications. Dr. Chen had been a faculty member in the Department of Industrial Design at Tatung University for two years. After that, he joined the faculty team at the Department of Design in National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (Taiwan Tech), Taipei, Taiwan. His cross-disciplinary research interests involve Human Factors in Industrial/Interaction Design, Color Theories and Applications, Design Languages and Representation, Culture in Industrial/Interaction Design, Cognitive Design, Product/User Interface Usability Engineering, Design Research Methodology, User Experience Research, and KnowledgeBased Expert Systems in Design.

Prof Chen Chun-Hsien

Prof Chen Chun-Hsien

CHEN Chun-Hsien is Full Professor, Director of the Design Stream, and Professor-in-Charge of the Design & Human Factors Lab in the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He received his BS degree in Industrial Design from National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan, MS and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA. He has several years of product design & development experience in the industry. His teaching and research interests are design science in product design and development; engineering/design informatics for managing/ supporting digital design & manufacturing; and human factors and management of human performance. He has more than 300 publications in these areas.

Prof. Chen has served as a Technical Reviewer for National Science and Technology Awards (Singapore), National Research Foundation of Korea, The Knowledge Foundation (KK) HÖG 16 Project, Sweden, and a Judge for Pin Up Design Awards (South Korea), an Advisory Board member for ISTE (International Society of Transdisciplinary Engineering), an Advisory Committee member for various international conferences held in USA, Europe, Brazil, China, Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Prof. Chen has been appointed as Editor-in-Chief of Advanced Engineering Informatics (ADVEI) since January 2013 (till 2025) and Associate Editor of Space Mission Planning & Operations (SMPO) since August 2022. Besides, he is an editorial board member of Journal of Engineering Design, and Recent Patents on Engineering.
